Developers are considering an update that will restore the function of combining apps and clock seconds in the system tray.

Two functionalities of Windows might be making a return in Windows 11.

On top of these “never combine apps,” the ability to display seconds in the System Tray is also available without any need to change settings.

Microsoft has found two new functions hiding in the latest Windows 11 preview builds.

Windows 11’s big criticism from users is that the Taskbar experience is a step backwards from previous versions. This is because the Taskbar on Windows 11 has been rebuilt from scratch, meaning many older functions need to be reined in as well.

Microsoft has no plans to bring back some classic features like the ability to dock the Taskbar to the side or top of your screen. However, some of its classic functionalities have already been developed internally and may make their way into Windows 10 one day.

Albacore noticed Microsoft is working on restoring the ability to view clock seconds in the system tray, as well as restoring the “Never combine” option for taskbar grouping that was first introduced on Windows 7.

Windows 11 only currently offers dock integration for apps. There is no change to the always-on way of show and hide app titles on the lock screen, or to be able to combine two apps on the Windows dock.
