Microsoft had announced plans to build a standalone Loop app at the Ignite conference in 2021, but they were still in private preview as of October 12th. Officials revealed this fact during an interview on October 12th.

Microsoft Loop is a live, collaborative workspace that is designed to help teams to think, plan and create together. The Loop app includes workspaces, pages, and components that are compatible across Microsoft 365.

Loop” is the company name that Microsoft has decided to use for many of its Fluid Framework collaboration technologies. Officials first introduced this new technology in 2019 as a way to provide fast coauthoring and compound documents that included elements with synchronization happening nearly instantly.

Loop lets you live, play, and create within PowerPoint. You can place your loops into a slide show or add them as an icebreaker at the start of a meeting. What better way to spark collaboration and discussion?

Microsoft announced that they will be adding new Loop content types to their software, as well as updating existing components. Users will be able to insert a poll, checklist or task list component into a Word for Web document under the Inert Menu or by using Editor with Context IQ by typing the “@” sign. This ability is set for release in private preview within a few months.

Users will be able to copy an existing Loop component and paste it into Whiteboard in Teams, web or desktop. In addition, the new Polls component type based on Microsoft Forms will allow users to create surveys, quizzes and more. It will also allow users to continue using those questions in Word for the Web in a collaborative setting. This is slated for release by year-end. The new Q&A Loop component will allow users to collect answers from colleagues for questions posed in Outlook on the Web. That type of application is slated for release later this month.

Sensitivity Labels, a new Data Loss Prevention feature, is coming. It will be available to loop components in Team Chat by the end of 2022, along with a new security component that you can use to set a level of security.
