In an email update to Microsoft Account holders, Microsoft announced on Feb. 1, 2023 that attachments in Outlook.com email will count towards Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage space.
Microsoft will be adding 50GB to OneDrive storage starting on February 1 of 2023. Beginning in this month, you’ll have at least the equivalent of Outlook.com’s dedicated storage in Microsoft OneDrive for a year!
Outlook.com will have its own storage that’s separate from Microsoft OneDrive, and all your attachments are going to share a space. This means that regardless of the size, every attachment is going to reduce OneDrive’s total storage for all the users on it. Since 1GB is 1,000 MB, you should be able to attach 50 attachments at most by using no more than 1GB.
It’s difficult to quantify the impact that a lack of OneDrive storage will have, but with so much information being stored in emails, it won’t be at all surprising if those without OneDrive storage find it more difficult to work. If you’re looking for the storage solution that offers users more than just 5GB of space, Google Drive definitely is worth checking out.
Now that we have context, let’s look at the best options available to consumers. The awesome news is that additional OneDrive storage isn’t that expensive. For a monthly fee of C$2 or C$19 over the course of a year, you’ll be able to get 100GB on top of your included amount. In addition, subscriptions to Microsoft Office 365, which offer 1TB in OneDrive storage and more, start at only C$79.
Microsoft focuses on the consistent production and delivery of new features, improved customer service, and adding value to their services. In its 2023 earnings report released on October 25th, it’s clear that Microsoft is paying attention to everything but what’s happening in the stock market.
