Microsoft is listening to your feedback and has finally added the Assigned to Me list of tasks. Now you can aggregate multiple tasks across different projects in the app of your choice using one list view all in one place.

With Microsoft Teams, you’re only one task management tool away from having more of everything. That includes bringing To Do tasks found in Project into the mix. Microsoft has also started to make more sense of the different roles that Project and Planner are good for.

One of the biggest hurdles that executives face is tracking their workforce in today’s digital world. That’s because there are so many different places for tasks to get assigned, and often without much oversight or visibility. With Microsoft’s new Viva Goals app, employees will see where their contributions are going and exactly how their efforts contribute to an organization’s broader goals.

Viva Goals offers broad-based goal-setting and tracking features customers can use to achieve their life goals.

We’re excited to announce that soon Viva Goals will let you add Project and Microsoft Planner plans to the dashboard and set how they relate to high-level objectives and key results for the whole company. These goals will be updated automatically, so keep an eye out for the launch date!

If you use Microsoft Project, or any other Outlook task scheduling software to help document your OKRs, then you’ll be able to see those tasks reflected in Viva Goal’s reports.

How does a part of your OKRs look in Viva Goals? If you use Microsoft Project or Planner, you can see how these tasks are progressing with a visual breakdown of your goals.

The much-requested Ask Me Anything feature is right around the corner

Microsoft’s priority is giving its users what they want. For managing your own workload and tasks in Microsoft Project, being able to see tasks from Planner and To Do alongside your assigned tasks will be more useful in the future.

Once this extension arrives, you’ll finally have a single list of all of your tasks. Regardless of the system they live in, you can then filter and sort by task due date and what’s set as a priority. You’ll also see tasks from Project To Do in the Microsoft To Do app on the same Assigned to Me smart list that shows tasks from Planner, but there is another list called My Day which keeps track of individual tasks. You can choose to add individual tasks to My Day if you want to do that.

When you connect Tasks by Planner to Project, a name change will be needed for the tasks so it’s clear where they’re from.

Microsoft’s recent announcement will result in changes to the names of tasks within Planner and To Do. They will be renamed as Project tasks as Microsoft integrates its management tools into Team provide.

Because tasks can come from different systems rather than just one, you may have a more customizable experience. In Microsoft Teams, for example, you can check for due dates, notes fields, checklists and two levels of priorities. Tasks from Planner or Project also offer those features, but they also offer work or project labels; start dates; attachments; comments; three levels of progress that you can see; priority levels and more.

When you’re in Microsoft To Do, you can organize and manage your to-do list using numerous methods. You’ll know what tasks are due soon and how they’re going without having to open the full app.

With Planner and To Do tasks, stay updated with everything on your plate through easy-to-read tabs. It’s easy to see what’s happening with Projects right alongside that.

Microsoft Teams is one of the most robust collaboration platforms with both Teams and Planner integrations. With this app, you’ll now have the power to track your tasks alongside other popular apps such as To Do, or even plan entire projects.

Are you struggling to keep track of tasks in Project? The best option is to make it a tab in your teams channel. This way, you can still get a quick overview with the timeline, charts and people views, or pop up a Teams chat for project discussion. It will be more efficient than having to juggle two windows and looking for an empty spot on your screen.

Microsoft put Project inside the Team website. This was done to provide a way for employees and managers to collaborate while they were working on projects. They also added a tab so that more details and contextual conversation could be shared on any page within the Teams site, free of charge.

In Teams, Microsoft has added the tab for Project to provide more details about a task and to allow discussions in context.

While Microsoft has not revealed exact dates for when new features will be available, you can soon also check task history to see who defined different tasks, and when it was broken up into different activities.

Microsoft hasn’t released a concrete roadmap for Project and Planner yet, but it does show where new features are coming and how far out they are.

The roadmap Microsoft shared for Project and Planner at the Ignite conference doesn’t have dates yet, but it does illustrate its future projects.

Microsoft Project’s new features include easy agile support to fit your workflow.

Microsoft Project is getting some new features! Agile support will let you manage springs and backlogs, plans can now include up to 1,000 tasks, and you will be able to create more complex relationships between tasks. These options are familiar to users of the powerful desktop Project software.

When reviewing comments in a Word document or PowerPoint document, moving quickly from one task in OneDrive for Business to another is now possible with the new Activity column. It also includes a list of documents that are shared with you and what others are connected to them, making it easier to find your next task when reviewing documents before diving into the conversation.

Microsoft is committed to working with all its customers. That means we’re providing Task Management and Project collaboration tools, both of which will continue to be available on their platform. However, sometimes you might find that planning out your project in Planner fits better than the more powerful tools inside of Project. If one of your colleagues already did this for you in Planner, then transferring it over makes more sense than starting over again.

Planner is compatible with Project. This allows you to keep your project in one place, and stays up to date. The new feature allows you to migrate your Planner projects into the timeline in Project.

This discusses how you can import a copy of the current Planner plan into the Project trial. Make sure you experiment with this before switching to make sure it doesn’t cause issues with your workflow. You’ll be able to choose which Planner plans you want in the future – so if you used them before and want to use them again, that’s easily possible.

If your organization already has project licenses, IT admins can assign you a license or tell you to request one instead of a trial. At the moment, this will still only let you work with the Planner plan you imported during the trial timeframe, but in the future you’ll be able to move more Planner plans to Project when needed.
