We reported that Microsoft has been developing new smaller updates to Windows 11. These will be included with their newest big update which is due to release next year. The “Moment” updates themselves are internally referred to as “smaller feature updates”, and Microsoft has already released the first “Moment” with features like tabs in File Explorer.

The next update for Windows 11, called “Moment 2”, is coming and it will feature exciting new features. We’ve been testing these features throughout 2022 and they should be ready by January 2023.

The Windows Insider team, in a video posted on YouTube, accidentally showed off an internal build of Windows 11 version 22H2, which they are now calling “Moment 2.”

Consumers will not be getting Build 23003. Instead, the company will ship a cumulative update that will bump the build number to 22623 from 22622 or 22621. That’s because Windows 11 Moment 2 is not a new version of the OS, but rather an update to the existing version 22H2.

Curious about the upcoming features with Windows? You can already try some of these out on your PC if you’re a Windows Insider member. We mentioned this earlier as Microsoft’s public testing platform for future updates, including things like new operating systems, software and app features, and more.

As of now, we don’t have the release notes for Windows 11’s Moment 2 update. However, one of the new features could be the highly-anticipated “Tablet-Optimized Taskbar.” Windows Insider demoed this feature in a video.

Some may argue the “Moment” approach isn’t as reliable, but it’s still better than delaying features until the next major update.

Microsoft acknowledged the confusion and the company will be updating its documentation to share upcoming features.
