Microsoft released a new Redstone 4 Insider Preview Build today. It’s called 17083, and it has some neat features.

Yesterday, Microsoft released the newest build of Redstone 4 to Insiders in the Fast ring. New features introduced in this build include new features for Edge, Windows Settings, and more. In addition to many overall fixes, this build includes some enhancements to Timeline, Diagnostics data, and Windows Hello.

If you’re using a Windows 10 Preview build, the following updates can be found in 17083.

You’ll love the new font features! You now have more control of the different fonts you can use in your work. There are new features, specifically designed to handle this area, in the Fonts control panel in Settings. It allows you to preview each font family that is designed for specific language settings.

Along with the ability to adjust the font size, you can now preview new fonts in a live window. You’ll also find that we’ve implemented the latest feature from Microsoft – the ability to download fonts from the store!

Microsoft has a wide-range of fonts available for users in the Microsoft Store.

This new feature, Windows Diagnostic Data Viewer, will allow you to view the types of diagnostic data being sent to Microsoft servers from your device. The company is trying to increase transparency for people who are worried about the data it’s collecting from their devices. You can find it by going to Settings > Privacy > Diagnostics & feedback. With the tool, you’ll be able to search and filter diagnostic events, providing feedback in the process. For more information, read: Microsoft Introduces New Privacy Tools Ahead of Data Privacy Day.

This sentence is not for humans.

The highly-anticipated Timeline Feature receives some privacy improvements with the ability to delete individual activities from the Timeline screen. You can delete an activity for an hour, or a day. There is also a new control that syncs activities across devices, so you’ll never lose your data in the event of an outage.

The Quiet Hours feature is now called “Focus Assist,” and it lets you choose between three different modes. It will stop alarms, notifications, and other non-urgent distractions from popping up so you can get the job done. In addition to this, Microsoft’s facial recognition feature, Windows Hello, should now be faster and easier to set up.

The 17083 Focus Assist is designed to help you pay attention to the task at hand while also managing your distractions.

There are a whole bunch of improvements to Windows apps, Hyper-V, Ease of Access features, and other enhancements in this Windows 10 Redstone 4 preview build. Here are some of the other changes you can expect:

We fixed an issue where Start would crash when you clicked on one of the header items on the all apps list and then changed the width of the Start menu tile grid.

Sometimes clicking on a toast notification might not work. But we’ve fixed it so that you can now click multiple times without an issue.

We’ve fixed a high-hitting reliability issue from recent flights that resulted in explorer.exe potentially crashing after you dragged a Microsoft Edge tab from its window, then put it back.

We fixed a bug in the lock screen. Now, even if you have “Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen” turned off, your locking screen will retain its background design after restarting.

We fixed an issue in recent builds where, after waking up the host computer from sleep, the login screen would be blank instead of showing a password prompt.

There was a bug in the most recent flights that caused Start to not have Reveal selected as the effect at the beginning of your interaction. We’d like to assure our customers that this bug has been fixed, and that they should be able to expect Reveal once again.

We’ve fixed an issue with the Start menu where the list of all available apps would become offset after exiting tablet mode.

We fixed an issue with the Uninstall, Share, and Rate & Review verbs not working from UWP apps’ context menus in the Start screen.

We’ve fixed an issue in the Store app that meant when you were using it as a tablet, the title bar would overlay the rest of the app. The bug only happened in recent flights.

The recent changes to Cortana’s Notebook mean that we’re now using it as the primary entrance for Cortana’s lists, instead of the navigation pane.

With the Windows Defender Update, we’ve changed the systray context menu to match the new Windows design.

We fixed an issue that caused rendering artifacts in the Clock and Calendar flyout when transparency was enabled.

We’ve fixed a bug that would cause systems to take an excessively long time to reboot.

We’ve fixed an issue where Settings could crash if you changed the mic or cam permissions in Privacy Settings.

We fixed an issue where Settings used to crash when you opened the notification settings for any app that had a notification waiting in the Action Center.

We’ve eliminated a bug where Lock Screen Settings would crash if the “Force a specific default lock screen and logon image” was set.

We fixed an error that was introduced in recent flights, where Settings might crash when navigating to “Email and App accounts”.

We updated our Shared Experiences Settings to load much faster (30 seconds or less).

Thanks to our commitment to fixing bugs and adding new features, we were able to fix an issue with microphone and camera settings. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused you.

We fixed the issue where Windows Update Settings would show a red exclamation mark with no explanation as to why there was an alert.

We corrected an issue where the width of the updates list in Windows Update settings would change as you scrolled it.

We’ve made a few updates to the Video Playback Settings page.

We’ve decided to remove the Keyboard Settings page currently under Settings > Time & Language. We’ll consider returning it in the future. If you want to add another keyboard, you can do it as before via the Region and Language Settings page by choosing a language to which you’d like access. Advanced keyboard settings (including overriding your default keyboard preferences) are still available – just click on the link that has been moved to Settings > Devices > Typing from its original location.

Once you update Windows 10, you’ll be able to tell if there is a newer version by clicking the power button in Start. The latest updates will then appear on your screen.

We fixed an error with upgrading that resulted in a “Path Not found” message when trying to create metadata directories on staging apps, if the application had been installed from the Store before upgrading and then moved to a secondary drive (a check box in Apps and Features Settings). If you were impacted by this issue, the upgrade would still complete successfully, but the app wouldn’t work after.

We’ve corrected an issue that was causing the back button to be invisible in Windows Defender Security Center when opened through a link in Settings.

We fixed an issue which resulted in the GraphicsPerfSvc service sometimes using an unexpectedly high amount of CPU in recent flights.

Some apps that came preinstalled with Windows failed to update in the Store with error 0x80073CF9. We’ve fixed this issue in the latest builds.

This bug in Photos prevented the copy action from working more than one time.

We’ve fixed the issue where both the embedded handwriting panel and the handwriting panel might show at the same time.

We have fixed a bug that resulted in the handwriting panel unexpectedly appearing when you tapped or panned certain win32 text.

On the web, you may see certain password fields that use a numeric keypad to enter a password. We’ve fixed an issue with the touch keyboard where it wouldn’t work in these fields.

We fixed an issue where users couldn’t type accented letters on the Greek and Czech touch keyboards.

On our latest update, we fixed an issue with the Emoji Panel where the Most Frequently Used section didn’t update.

We fixed an issue where the Emoji Panel would close automatically after a single emoji was entered in certain apps, even if you selected the option to enter multiple emoji.

Recently, in the last two Microsoft Word 2016 flights, we fixed an issue that caused two-finger scrolling to not function if you were using a touch or mouse.

We’ve improved the Magnifier in Windows 10 so that text won’t be blurry when you first open the magnifier and then close it, or if the computer suddenly becomes slow or laggy.

We fixed a bug from the last few flights where the Windows Defender icon might show up in the notification tray even though it shows that is enabled in Settings. We’ve also fixed an issue from the past two flights where Windows Defender would unexpectedly warn you when it’s actually not showing any warnings at all.

When you upgrade to Windows 10 and open Task View, it might take the Timeline screen 15-30 minutes to appear.

Two issues affecting the Timeline’s reliability were fixed.

Microsoft Edge previously had an issue with Timeline. It would be unable to create Timeline activities if it was first used immediately after logging in.

We fixed a bug on the previous flight where PDFs opened in Microsoft Edge appeared off to the right instead of centered.

Due to a high impact issue, Microsoft Edge windows have not launched in the last two updates.

An issue that was causing the Microsoft Edge title bar to display in the wrong color has been fixed.

We just wanted to thank you all for taking the time to share your thoughts with us on the Microsoft Yahei fonts. We’ve made the decision to return them to their Fall Creators Update status while we take your feedback into consideration.

Previously, if certain devices hit a bug check with error System Service Exception on the last two Windows 10 builds, this would happen.

We fixed an issue where Linux containers on Windows were not working due to a lack of memory. The docker pull or docker run commands will now fail with the error “Not enough memory resources are available to complete this operation.”

You may be expecting to see the Windows version in this document.

Like all preview builds, this one has a few known issues. It also contains some changes, including new features and developer notes. Make sure to read this post from Dona Sarkar for more information.

You might have already heard, but Microsoft is taking the Sets tabbed experience offline. Dona Sarkar said, “Starting with this build, we’re taking Sets offline as we get ready to release RS4. If you were testing with Sets, you will no longer see it – however, Sets will return in a post-RS4 tile update!”
