Security app, Xfinity, had a security breach just last month that left some of its users exposed. On Thursday morning, software company, F-Secure (formerly named on Secure), announced a brand new feature in collaboration with Xfinity.

Microsoft has announced the release of a new product for OneDrive for Business– Advanced Microsoft OneDrive for Business. This new product is designed to automatically analyze files and scan them as they are stored on your drive. It leverages real-time threat intelligence and multi-stage content analysis which scans and analyzes the files while they are still in the upload stage, including during any modifications.

WithSecure’s flagship product, WithSecure Elements, operates as a cloud-based security platform that organizations can use to offload security management to a trusted managed service provider or opt to manage in-house. It promises organizations the flexibility to pick and choose the capabilities they need via different modules, including endpoint protection, endpoint detection and response, vulnerability management, and collaboration protection.

Many companies are shifting to collaborative, cloud-based tools because their adoption has become widespread. However, the cloud is a very different environment and many organizations need to adjust. There’s an increased risk of attack and data exposure because this trend has become so popular and convenient.

Dave Gruber, an Enterprise Strategy Group principal analyst, explained that Microsoft’s new file scanning/detonation capability scans all files saved to OneDrive for catching malware. He also said that it adds a new level of layer defense to their endpoint security platform.

With new technology coming rapidly, it’s important for companies to be constantly aware of how these technologies can allow malicious attackers to launch attacks. Frank Dickson of IDC said that in order to truly modernize security practices and technologies, companies will need to take a closer look at risk mitigation and risk management.

“Collaboration/communications tools” are in need of “optimization and modernized security,” according to Dickson. “Hybrid work implies that the internet is the primary network connection.” Thus, “the principles of zero trust need to be extended to our collaboration platforms” in order for new business requirements to be met while maintaining an acceptable level of security and integrity.
